YKK AP Endorses the Japan Climate Initiative Message

Calling for Acceleration of the Adoption of Renewable Energy and the Strengthening of Climate Change Action

Corporate Information

YKK AP Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hidemitsu Hori) announced that the company has endorsed the Japan Climate Initiative*1 (“JCI”) message calling on companies, local governments, organizations, NGOs, and others to endorse its appeal to the Japanese government to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy and strengthen climate change action.

The message endorsed at this time by YKK AP says that despite the current energy crisis, now is the time to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy without obscuring climate change action.

YKK AP has established the following vision for the company in 2050: “To achieve zero environmental burdens through the entire lifecycle within our business activities.” YKK AP is undertaking the development and sales of products such as windows and doors with high thermal insulation performance that contribute to the reduction of GHG emissions, as well as the reduction of environmental burdens at the procurement, manufacturing, and logistics stages.

YKK AP established an environmental target of reducing its CO2 emissions by 50% from 2013 levels by 2030. As part of its initiatives toward the achievement of carbon neutrality in 2050, the company launched the Carbon Neutral Project, formulating a carbon neutral technology roadmap under the themes of “energy-saving equipment,” “process conversion,” “energy creation,” “renewable energy procurement,” “logistics,” and “products and materials.” “Energy creation” refers to promotion of the adoption of captive renewable energy sources on in-house premises. Up to now, solar, and small hydroelectric power have been adopted at six sites (in Japan and overseas) for the generation of a total of 2,100 kW. In FY2021, the company achieved the annual reduction of 930t of CO2 emissions. Such energy creation will be expanded to a total of 12,300 kW by FY2024. YKK AP will accelerate adoption of renewable energy with the target of reducing 8,300t of CO2 from FY2020 levels.

Through the endorsement of the aforementioned message, the company will promote the further utilization as well as operational improvement of renewable energy, thereby advancing its climate change action and launching its challenge to achieve zero environmental burdens.
