A Safe, Flame-Free Installation Method

The no-welding method is a joining method which uses high-strength resin instead of welding. Since the method is flame-free, not only is it safe, but it also saves time and resources in installation.

For sash installation on structures of reinforced concrete (RC) and steel (S), such as buildings and condominiums, the welding method, in which rebar is welded on before the gaps are filled with mortar, is commonly used. However, rebar welding uses fire, so there are risks such as fire hazards caused by sparks from welding. It also poses health hazards to sash installation technicians, due to the light and smoke from welding. In addition, not only are special technical qualifications required for sash installation technicians, but equipment such as welding machines and power supply equipment are necessary for installation, as well. Transporting and deploying this equipment requires a great deal of time and effort.

As sash installation technicians have grown older, and the labor shortage has become more acute, reducing the workload at installation sites has become a major issue. The no-welding method solves these problems, is safe, and can improve installation accuracy.

The no-welding method uses a viscous resin adhesive that hardens to affix the sash to the building frame. Specifically, after placing the anchors into the building frame and erecting the sash, the technician attaches the injection mold and injects the resin adhesive. The installation is complete when the resin adhesive has hardened (about 10 minutes at an outside temperature of 20°C). No special skills are required for installation, and the only tools needed are a riveter and a resin injector. This ensures steady installation accuracy, while greatly reducing the workload of the welding method.

The no-welding method solves many of the welding method’s problems.

A major feature of this method is that it does not scatter sparks, unlike the welding method, and there is no risk of burning nearby buildings or the installed glass. In addition, flame-free installation reduces hazardous operations such as electric shocks and burns, and it does not affect the surrounding environment or the health of sash installation technicians due to smoke or strong ultraviolet rays. A people-friendly, eco-friendly installation method which poses no fire risks will greatly help improve the environment at construction sites.

While work done via the welding method must be conducted under safety regulations, and requires special technical qualifications, the no-welding method can install sashes using only ordinary sash installation techniques.

It also offers many advantages in terms of material reduction and process control. Since no preparation (for embedding and rebar) is required on the building frame side before installation, this not only leads to a reduction in materials, but also contributes to energy conservation by eliminating power consumption. By not needing to transport and set up welding equipment, connect power supplies, and use protective coverings for sparks, work efficiency improves. Unlike the welding method, work can be performed even in the rain, facilitating process control.
