YKK AP is Certified by the Ministry of the Environment as an Eco-First Company

Commended for Advanced, Unique, Industry-Leading Business Activities in the Environmental Field

YKK AP Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Akira Uozu) was certified as an Eco-First Company in the Eco-First Program run by the Ministry of the Environment on April 5, 2023, and was recognized as a company engaged in advanced, unique, industry-leading business activities in the environmental field (environmentally advanced company in its industry).

YKK AP’s vision for 2050 is to “achieve zero environmental burdens through the entire lifecycles within its business activities.” To accomplish this, the company is creating environmental value at all stages of the lifecycle and working for fewer impacts on the global environment. In particular, it set targets for four environmental issuesclimate change, resource recycling, water, and biodiversityand are working to achieve them. YKK AP was certified as an environmentally advanced company for declaring that it will take on these initiatives as part of its Eco-First Commitments. 

YKK AP will continue its efforts to solve environmental issues throughout the entire value chain while helping build a sustainable society as a company striving to cause zero environmental impacts. 

[YKK AP’s Eco-First Commitments (overview)] 

1. With the aim of achieving carbon neutrality in 2050, the company will work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change in all stages of its business activities 
Popularizing high thermal insulation windows to help cut CO2 emissions (reduction amount by FY2024 of 1.5 times compared to FY2020) 
Cutting CO2 emissions from its business activities to 50% of the FY2013 amount (Scope 1+2) by FY2030, with net zero greenhouse gas emissions in 2050 

2. The company will introduce the circular economy model and utilize resources in a sustainable way to suppress the amount of waste generated throughout product lifecycles 
Accelerating the transition to recycling aluminum scraps from the market, building vinyl window collection and recycling systems outside the company through industry-government-academic collaboration 

3. To co-exist with the natural environment, the company will reduce emissions from its business activities and use water in a sustainable way 

4. The company will help build a sustainable society through business initiatives that have positive effects on biodiversity, while minimizing negative impacts as much as possible 

5. By conducting environmental education and working to raise awareness, the company will cultivate environmental human resources who will be responsible for the next generation 

6. To help build a sustainable society through its products and monozukuri, the company will actively invest in efforts to reduce impacts on the global environment 

7. YKK AP’s senior management team will work to strengthen environmental management on the global stage

About the Eco-First Program

The Ministry of the Environment started this program in 2008 to encourage efforts by environmentally advanced companies in various industries. These companies declare to the minister of the environment their Eco-First Commitments, consisting of environmental conservation initiatives (including mitigating global warming, measures related to waste and recycling, and other efforts).

The minister of the environment certifies them as members of the Eco-First Program—companies engaged in advanced, unique, industry-leading business activities in the environmental field.
