YKK AP Acquires a Site for a Factory in Misato Town, Saitama Prefecture, and Announces Plan to Construct a New Factory
Restructuring the Aluminum Architectural Products Manufacture and Supply Structure for Commercial Buildings in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area
YKK AP Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hidemitsu Hori) announced that to expand the YKK AP Saitama Factory, it has acquired land in Misato Town, Saitama Prefecture, adjacent to the current factory. The Plan to construct the new factory is as follows.
The YKK AP Saitama Factory is a manufacturing site for aluminum architectural products for commercial buildings. The factory is located close to Yorii Smart Interchange of the Kan-Etsu Expressway and is easily accessible from points of construction demand in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
YKK AP has listed “Strengthening the commercial business in the Tokyo metropolitan area and manufacturing reform” as a priority measure for the company in FY2021. With the recent acquisition of the factory site, YKK AP will restructure the manufacturing and supply structure, newly enhancing the Saitama Factory into a core factory that will increase the competitive strength of the commercial business in East Japan, including the Tokyo metropolitan area.
Through manufacturing reform, manufacturing costs at the new factory will be reduced by 25% from before. This includes intensive production using the rationalized facilities of the in-house Machinery Manufacturing Division, expansion of automated processes, and the data-coordinated development of production lines. There will also be logistics reform, including the implementation of unit loading and modal shifts. This will shorten lead times, from order receipt to delivery, by about six days.
The concept of the structure will be to create a “rewarding factory.” CO2 emissions will be reduced by 30% by adopting building skins with high thermal insulation performance, windows with superior thermal insulation and ventilation performance, modulated lighting, and high efficiency air conditioning. Furthermore, net-zero CO2 emissions will be achieved through solar power generation and the procurement of renewable energy. What is more, rainwater will also be utilized, and YKK AP will aim for a green factory that is friendly to the global environment and to the people who work there. A portion of the land that was newly acquired is also scheduled to be made into rest areas that will be open for use as a place for relaxation by the general public from neighboring areas.
[Concept of the New Factory]
- Manufacturing reform: 25% reduction of manufacturing costs as compared to the past; lead-time reduction of approximately six days
- Logistics reform: 14% improvement of delivery efficiency through the implementation of unit loading and modal shifts
- Rewarding factory: 30% reduction of CO2 emissions through structure specifications; achievement of net-zero CO2 emissions through solar power generation and renewable energy procurement
